ALOSLIDE ICE in Oberstdorf

During the FIS Summer Grand Prix 2006 held in Klingenthal, the world’s elite ski jumpers were enthusiastic about the inrun track system ALOSLIDE based on high-tech ceramics.

Oberstdorf is experiencing the latest innovation in ski jumping technology

Year-round system with only one track

On the occasion of the FIS ski flying world championship taking place from February 21 to 24, 2008 in Oberstdorf, ETEC Gesellschaft für Technische Keramik mbH introduces ALOSLIDE ICE – the first one-track-system worldwide combining high-tech ceramics and artificial ice for ski jumping hills. ALOSLIDE ICE guarantees constantly identical conditions on artificial ice (winter) and on high-tech ceramics (summer), independently of prevailing weather conditions.

Regardless of weather conditions, the artificial ice track ensures absolutely identical conditions for top athletes because a professional moulding cutter keeps the artificial ice layer constantly plane. Even heavy snowfall will no longer be an obstacle for ski jumpers because additional top parts such as snow removal plates and brushes keep the complete track area cleared according to the FIS regulations. By means of ALOSLIDE ICE, ETEC complies already now with the new FIS trend requiring that international competition venues be held on constantly identical artificial ice tracks.

And now the best: Once summer operation is finished, the modular one-track system can easily be converted to winter operation. By means of the integrated automatic watering and cooling system it is possible to form quickly a solid artificial ice layer with a thickness of 15 mm.

A professional refrigerator as it is also used in ice rinks, supplies the build-up of a solid layer of artificial ice with a constant quality. The integrated water duct leads the water over the track surface and is subsequently directly frozen by the integrated cooling and heating system. Heating will predominantly be required during transition periods, for example when the track must be cleared owing to sudden frost.

ALOSLIDE ICE is a further selective development of the original ALOSLIDE inrun track system which was introduced into the market four years ago. For the first time, it was possible to hold national and international competitions for top athletes even under relatively snowless weather conditions, and ski jumping on ceramic nubs has shown “at least equally good results as ski jumping on snow”. Adam Malysz was full of praise, Janne Ahonen was happy about his possibly record-breaking jumps he had been able to achieve. Already in September 2006 during the summer Grand Prix, the other members of the world’s ski jumping elite turned out to be highly satisfied with the inrun track system ALOSLIDE based on high tech ceramics made by ETEC. “Now ski jumping is finally possible independently of weather conditions” – this was the unanimous opinion of everybody there. The ALOSLIDE system was assembled on the Olympic jumping hill in Torino, on the large jumping hill in Bischofshofen, on the one in Courchevel and on a number of further high-tech ski jump arenas.

ALOSLIDE is subject to protection for utility models (patent pending).
