CO2 Energy Efficiency Award for ETEC's Compact Bend

The official Awards Ceremony for the 6th MATERIALICA Design + Technology Award took place in the middle of October 2008 on the occasion of the MATERIALICA exhibition. During a non-public session, the jury of seven experts selected a total of 19 award winners. It was the first time that the special award “MATERIALICA CO2 EFFICIENCY AWARD” was offered.

The first winner of the newly created CO2 Efficiency Award is the compact bend made by ETEC. There is an increasing number of public discussions about climate change and CO2 emission. Specific materials and light construction technologies can help reducing CO2 emission. Here we find one outstanding advantage of ETEC’s compact bend which, with its inner lining made of high-performance ceramics ALOTEC®, even in extremely narrow radii is capable of following the uniform cross-section of the total system. ETEC’s compact bend allows for uniform cross sections in tube systems, and this is why they can be operated with less air pressure in comparison to impact absorbers generally used. As a consequence, energy consumption can be considerably reduced, and according to estimations given by users in the foundry industry, reductions of up to 50% can be achieved.

The second product awarded with a Materialica Design Award is the ceramic/steel ball valve made by ETEC. The decisive factor to award this product was its combination of high-quality materials and their individual advantages for wear protection applications.

Compact bends and ball valves made by ETEC are protected as utility models, and applications for patents were filed for both products.

ETEC has a leading position worldwide as a supplier of high-tech solutions for industrial wear and corrosion protection, based on high-performance ceramics, as well as for ceramic components for ballistic protection.
